Why Cactus & Tropicals is so unique

Cactus & Tropicals is more than just a plant nursery—it’s a living, breathing garden haven. The Draper location is a favorite for weddings because it offers a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that feels intimate, romantic, and naturally stunning. Here’s what makes it stand out:

  • Lush, Year-Round Greenery: Tropical plants, florals, and foliage create an indoor garden oasis no matter what the weather’s doing outside.
  • Filtered Natural Light: The glass greenhouse lets in soft, dreamy light that's chef’s kiss perfect for photography.
  • Minimal Décor Needed: The plants do all the heavy lifting. You don’t need much to make this space look incredible.
  • Convenient Location: Nestled in Draper, it’s easy for guests to reach from both Salt Lake City and Utah County.

Why Greenhouse Weddings Are Perfect for Spring in Utah

Let’s be real—spring in Utah can be a wild card. One minute it's sunny and 60, the next it’s snowing. That’s where a greenhouse wedding shines:

Weather-Proof but Still Natural: Enjoy all the lushness of an outdoor garden wedding without worrying about rain or wind.

Early Blooms: Even if Utah’s landscape is still waking up from winter, inside the greenhouse everything is alive and colorful. There will be live plants, blooming flowers, and fresh air.

Warm & Cozy: Say goodbye to freezing guests or muddy outdoor shoes—this venue keeps things comfortable.

Planning Tips for a Greenhouse or Spring Wedding

Planning a wedding in a greenhouse comes with its own little quirks—here are a few things to consider:

Humidity & Heat: Spring can still get warm inside the greenhouse. Think breathable fabrics for your dress and suits, and opt for makeup that holds up in humidity.

Guest Comfort: Fans or gentle airflow can help keep everyone feeling great during warmer afternoons.

Lighting Needs: While natural light is amazing during the day, consider adding string lights, lanterns, or candles for that soft, magical glow at night. Find a photographer and videographer that are skilled in photographing in low light venues. (Gentle nudge, but yes, we are knowledgeable in the area of low light photo and video).

Floral Planning: Coordinate with your florist to avoid clashing with the existing blooms—complement, don’t compete!

Photo Timing: Plan your portrait time for when the light is most flattering—late afternoon is usually golden inside of the greenhouse with the bright light being softened by the greenhouse glass. Outside of the greenhouse sunset timing is the dreamiest on a nice, sunny day.

A look into Abbey Jo and Shane's real wedding at Cactus and Tropicals

The day began with getting ready at The Embassy Suites in South Jordan, Utah. My second photographer and I began by photographing their details. A handbag that was her mothers. The groom's ring that was handcrafted by the bride's father. All the beautiful little things! Abbey had a first look with her father that was emotional and touching. Her sister's helped to place her veil and jewelry and her mom fitted her dress and completed the last touches.

Their ceremony took place in the afternoon inside of Cactus and Tropicals. Their set up was beautiful and the added florals to match their color palette of light blue, pink, yellow and shades of green fit so perfectly into the space to add the perfect pop of life and color! A few family and friends performed readings that made us laugh and cry and really feel the love that Shane and Abbey share.

After some family and wedding party photos we captured a few of the couple together around the greenhouse as well. Food from Gourmandise was served and speeches were delivered. The Best Man's speech was the funniest thing we've ever heard and the Maid of Honor's had us all in tears. The parents were so sweet and kind. First dances surrounded by fresh blooms and plants were magical and then the party commenced! The evening finished out with an exit perfectly suited to their garden theme - dried flower petals were tossed as the couple ran through.

Their day was filled with laughter, happy tears, and the kind of dreamy, flower-filled ambiance you can only get in a greenhouse wedding. From sweet ceremony moments beneath hanging plants to golden hour portraits in soft greenhouse light, it was pure magic.
