Engagement Session in Park City's Guardsman Pass | Utah Mountain Photography
There’s something unreal about a summer evening in the Utah mountains—and Guardsman Pass in Park City is one of the dreamiest spots for engagement photos. In July, it’s bursting with dainty wildflowers, full aspen trees, golden light, and cool mountain air that makes everything feel a little more magical. I had the absolute joy of photographing Abbey and Shane's mountain engagements up there last summer, and their love just radiated through every single shot. As a Park City engagement photographer, sessions like this make me fall in love with my job all over again.

Shane & Abbey - A Love Story in the Mountains
From the second we met, Abbey & Shane had this easy, playful energy that made everything about their session feel light and fun. Abbey loves all plants and works in a greenhouse. Shane is a drummer in a band and together their personalities meld perfectly. Abbey's green dress was flowy and magical and Shane's immaculate style really came through in his wardrobe. They weren’t afraid to dance barefoot through a field or laugh mid-spin, and that kind of carefree joy is everything I hope for in an engagement session. We spent the evening exploring the mountain meadow and aspens, talking about their wedding plans, and soaking in the peaceful alpine vibes. These two were such a perfect reminder that the best photos come when you’re just fully present with the person you love.

Why Guardsman Pass Is a Dreamy Spot for Utah Engagement Photos
Tucked between Park City and Big Cottonwood Canyon, Guardsman Pass is a hidden gem for couples who want their engagement photos to feel wild, romantic, and naturally stunning. In the summer, it’s covered in tall grass, aspen trees, and patches of wildflowers—basically a photographer’s dream. It’s one of the best engagement photo locations near Park City for couples who love the mountains and want a mix of epic views and cozy moments. Escaping to the mountain tops is also a way to beat the summer heat as it is typically 10 - 20 degrees cooler in the mountains than in the valley. I always recommend shooting here in the evening for that glowy sunset light, and weekday sessions are ideal to avoid the crowds.

What to Expect From a Summer Engagement Session in the Utah Mountains
July is one of the best months for a mountain engagement session in Utah. The weather is warm but breezy at elevation, and everything is lush and green. It is the most popular time for high alpine wildflowers as well. Parking for this meadow is a little tricky as they recently have made all of the close parking all handicapped parking (and yes, they will ticket you). You need to park at the hiking trailhead parking lot above this meadow and walk down the trail about .25 miles to the meadow. Please make sure you allow yourselves enough time to park and walk to the meadow before your session time. There will be mosquitoes in this area, so make sure you are ready for them, both mentally and with your preferred bug repellent. I'll also bring sunscreen, bug spray, and drinks so we can stay comfortable and have a great time. You're truly in for a visually stunning treat at this mountain top location. We’ll laugh, explore, and capture those natural, candid moments that truly reflect your connection. If you're dreaming of a romantic mountain photo session filled with love, laughter, and those in-between moments you never want to forget, this is for you.
