How to dress for your engagement session

Whitney and Tom did a beautiful job planning outfits for their engagement session at the Capitol building during the cherry blossoms. I recommend having a dressier outfit and a more casual outfit. Think of your location, the season, and what you both like when thinking about outfits. Neutrals like ivory, grey, tan, black, and blush work beautifully in all environments and are a very timeless choice. Neutrals are also easy to display in many situations because of their very flexible palette. With their casual outfits the neutrals of the ivory sweater and tan jacket made for a very elevated casual feel. Utilizing blacks, greys and ivory for bottoms also can elevate your casual looks while blue jeans keep them more relaxed and casual. As you can see in their mixture of both blue jeans and black pants, they blend well and create a natural, while still elevated, feel to their casual look.

Adding a pop of color to your engagement wardrobe!

When adding a pop of color think of the colors you will be surrounded by in your location. Utilize the color wheel and selecting colors on the opposite sides of the colors in your environment will make you pop from your surroundings. Following like tones will make your photos very congruent and beautiful. Try not to overload with patterns, but don't be afraid to have one of your wear patterns or texture!

Whitney's rose silk dress was a shade of the surrounding colors, and the silk fabric added texture for visual interest without being overwhelming. With their teal palette, the colors were opposite of the surrounding environment and really helped Whitney and Tom to stand out in a beautiful way. Tom wore a patterned shirt that tied in the florals all around them and added visual interest to their coordinated outfits.
