Utah State Capitol Building cherry blossoms
A Perfect Spring Engagement Photos Location

How to dress for your engagement session with the blossoms
Whitney and Tom did a beautiful job planning outfits for their engagement session at the Capitol building during the cherry blossoms. I recommend having a dressier outfit and a more casual outfit. Think of your location colors, the season, and what you both like when thinking about outfits. Neutrals like ivory, grey, tan, black, and blush work beautifully in all environments and are a very timeless choice. Neutrals are also easy to display in many situations because of their very flexible palette. With their casual outfits the neutrals of the ivory sweater and tan jacket made for a very elevated casual feel. Utilizing blacks, greys and ivory for bottoms also can elevate your casual looks while blue jeans keep them more relaxed and casual. As you can see in their mixture of both blue jeans and black pants, they blend well and create a natural, while still elevated, feel to their casual look.

Adding a pop of color to your engagement wardrobe!
When adding a pop of color think of the colors you will be surrounded by in your location. Utilize the color wheel and selecting colors on the opposite sides of the colors in your environment will make you pop from your surroundings. As an example of this Tom and Whitney wore teal with the pink blossoms, the opposites making the colors of each pop!
Keeping consistent with the tones of your location will make your photos very congruent and beautiful. Tom and Whitney's example of this includes Whitney's rose silk dress was a shade of the surrounding colors, and the silk fabric added texture for visual interest without being overwhelming.
Feel adventurous and explore patterns and textures of fabric as well! Tom wore a patterned shirt that tied in the florals all around them and added visual interest to their coordinated outfits. I do not recommend both partners wearing patterns as this can be visually overwhelming. Adding in a pattern to one partner's outfit can be a perfect pop though!

Think about how you want your engagement photos to feel -
Thinking of how you want your engagement photos to feel overall can help provide guidance for your session. Romantic? Find flowing fabrics like chiffon or elegant fabrics like silk. Energetic and fun? Try colors opposite on the color wheel and a pattern or jackets and hats. Relaxed? Neutrals and comfy sweaters or jeans. Editorial and edgy? Try different fabrics like leather or metallics and go out there and do something original and different! Feeling how color and texture in clothing can really add to the vibe of your whole shoot can be really tricky, so please do not hesitate to ask me for guidance or my opinion as your photographer!
