The salt flats, renowned for their ethereal vastness and otherworldly allure, undergo a metamorphosis during the spring and winter months. Where once was dry, white earth may now lay a shallow flooding of water, mirroring the sky above and offering a breathtaking canvas for photography.

A unique Utah location for photos


With each click of the camera, we captured moments of love, tender embraces, and strength—each frame a testament to the enduring bond shared by this remarkable family. Despite the challenges posed by nature's whims, the Holts remained steadfast, their spirits undampened by the cold embrace of the Salt Flats.

They traveled from Colorado for their photo session


In spring, the flooded salt flats offer a unique setting for capturing family moments. Despite the cold winds, the Holts braved the elements to realize Shaylee's dream of photos at this iconic location. Shaylee and her daughter wore stunning gowns rented from Salt Gowns, adding elegance to the wild landscape. Traveling from Colorado, their determination was evident as we navigated the stormy, cold weather. Against the backdrop of the setting sun, we captured genuine moments of joy and connection. This session wasn't just about photos; it was a testament to resilience and the power of family bonds.

Family mini session with a couple session


We went into our session knowing that it was going to be cold (like real chilly!), but since they were visiting from Colorado we didn't have any flexibility for the date. Our goal was to get a few family pictures they could cherish and hold forever, and then complete the remaining portion of their session time as a couple session with a wardrobe change to a new Salt Gowns dress. The purple gown with the watercolor purple and blue tones of the Salt Flats blue hour is magical!

Braving the stormy weather with amazing results


In the years to come, as they look back upon these images, the Holts will be reminded not only of the stunning landscapes that served as their backdrop but also of the love and resilience that carried them through this session. And for me, as a photographer, their story serves as a reminder of the magic that awaits those who dare to venture into the unknown, embracing life's adventures with open hearts and steadfast determination.
